Pirates of the Caribbean is the official MMORPG to go with the movies, and it’s available for both Windows and OS X, a fact that alone made us take a look.
We found Pirates of the Caribbean a nicely done game with a number of highlights. However, in total it wasn’t convincing enough for us to sign up permanently, and we also didn’t like the fact that it is marketed a little dishonestly.

Voyage Century

We discovered this game as an alternative to Pirates of the Caribbean. It is much more serious and historical, and a lot bigger. In addition, it is free-to-play - you can spend money at an item mall, and probably have to later in the game, but we like this model more than subscription-based.
At first, the game looked cheap, with many translation errors and a typical asian webpage. Nevertheless, it turned out to be quite addictive.

Neverwinter Nights 2

The best and worst game of 2007 at once, if you want it in a nutshell. Neverwinter Nights 2 is a great game, done so badly you won’t believe it. Not only should it never have been released in this state, it has been over a year now and the game is still close to unplayable.
But despite massive frustration, it still kept us glued to the screen for many hours. Playing NWN2 was a constant shift between thoughts of “return for refund or lawsuit” and “what a great story”.
